It's May, It's May.....

So happy for my friend Joelle who finished and defended her dissertation and is now officially a PhD. Hopefully I'll know what that feels like someday.

It's track season and Phoebe has been doing well in the 800 and 1600. We're hoping she will qualify for state, but it depends on District times. It's fun to watch her!

I decided to take a couple of days off and go down to Utah and see some friends. I left on Thursday and went to my friend Jen's for lunch. We visited for a few hours and it was great to catch up.

After that I hung around Salt Lake and went for a walk at Sugar House park while waiting to meet up with my friend Jenie. We had a great visit and went for some Indian food, joined by her husband Walter for a little bit. So busy talking I forgot to take a picture. That night I stayed in Eagle Mountain with my friend Wendy.

On Friday, Wendy and I went for a little hike, then I went to lunch at Cubby's with my friend Brenda. We had a blast catching up. Then I went to my friend Annie's and we chatted and then met Wendy for dinner at Slap Fish (yummy). (That's one thing I love about visiting Utah--new restaurants.) Then we went back to Wendy's and watched a movie in her theatre room and just had a great time chatting.

Saturday morning we met at Kneaders for some delicious breakfast and caught up with our friend Jody, who luckily I get to see when she passes through Idaho on her way to West Yellowstone. I loved being able to visit with these friends who are so special to me. That's the one thing I miss about Utah--all the great friends I've met over the years.

After that I headed home and it was great to get back to my family. I caught the last event of Phoebe's track meet and then we went for a little bike ride with Caleb and Chloe and then walked around the green belt. The kids love to ride their scooters down there. We were laughing the other day because the falls are a stop for all of the Asian tour buses on their way to Yellowstone. We were a little behind Chloe and Caleb and when we caught up, they were taking pictures with these Asian ladies. Chloe was a little freaked out because they just grabbed her and started taking pictures and of course she couldn't understand what they were saying. I let her know that when I went to China with Joelle, she was always getting stopped for pictures because of her blonde hair and blue eyes.

May starts off with a couple of birthdays for Leah and Madison, who are just a year apart. So, we had a combined party last night and had so much fun eating, playing with the grandkids, and chatting.

Ryker didn't want to ride on the trike, but he did like pushing it around. Almost two years old.
Playing solf in the backyard. That is a game that Caleb invented which involves hitting a soccer ball with a golf club. I'm sure it will become a thing someday. Caleb is such a sweet kid it makes me smile. He's been doing these dance rehearsals for the Cultural Celebration for the Idaho Falls Temple dedication. The first night they had him paired with a girl who looked like she was a Senior and was twice as tall as him, and he was supposed to do a lift. I was cracking up. Luckily, they paired him with someone smaller at the next rehearsal. He just has such a sweet, obedient little personality. He's obsessed with stand-up comedians, so I showed him Dana Carvey's "Choppin' Broccoli" and he and I were singing it in the car. Then last night, he walks in before going to bed and says, "I've gotten all the way up here and I don't even feel that big." When I asked him what he meant, he said, "I don't really feel like a teenager. I still feel like a little boy." And I said, "That's why we love you." And he said, "I'll always be your little boy." So sweet.
Kory was happy to have all three grandkids in one place!

The two birthday girls did great at blowing out their candles.
We went for a short walk when it wasn't raining or hailing for a few minutes. Love Spring in Idaho.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
