November

November On November 4 th , we had a big birthday party for Morgan and lots of the older kids joined us. She got some fun gifts and we had strawberry shortcake at her request. On Wednesday Kory and I took her and Lakyn to dinner, and Morgan chose to go to Panera where she ordered tomato soup in a bread bowl. Morgan has unusually healthy/adult taste buds for an 11-year-old. She is excited that she can start attending Young Women in January and going to the temple to do baptisms. That weekend I wrapped up my final edits on the dissertation. Kory did his final yard work—trimming bushes and raking leaves for about eight hours. Isaac took his girlfriend Carlie and Phoebe and a few other mission friends to Goldbug Hot Springs in the Salmon area. They had a pretty day for it. Kory’s dad happened to be in town on the 9 th , so we gathered at Josh and Kasey’s for some pizza and visiting. On the 10 th was the Primary Program. Our kids are all too old for that, but

October

October 2019 The first week of October we enjoyed General Conference and we had the kids, so we had our traditional toaster strudel. After conference on Sunday, Kory and I went for a nice stroll on the green belt with Chloe. Earlier that week, my parents hosted a mission reunion and Elder Bednar was the speaker, so it turned out to be a nice event. I finished my dissertation revisions and sent them to my committee for the defense in November. To celebrate being done with the dissertation, Kory and I went to Lava Hot Springs on the 12 th . That night, I went to dinner with Paula and Joelle. We later met some other friends at the Kristen Chenoweth concert, which was fantastic. Morgan brought Friend to church with her on the 13 th , saying he was feeling left out. On the 15 th , we helped the Sorenson’s host the cross-country team dinner. We dragged our little outdoor grill over there and Kory flipped pancakes. On the 21 st , McKenzie invited

September

September meant that BYUI got back into the swing of things. But on the home front, Chloe had her initial appointment at the orthodontist for braces. Caleb was going strong with cross country. We tried to get Isaac and Phoebe all prepped for school with lots of shopping trips for clothes, food, computers, etc. One day we took Morgan to the library and she wasn’t too interested in any books until she realized she could get books in French. I had my usual back to school meetings, but we also had a faculty member in my department die of cancer and her funeral was that week, so that was kind of sobering. Kory was made Elder’s Quorum President, so he has had a lot of meetings and things to get done. He’s doing a great job. I was able to finally schedule the defense for my dissertation! It will be on November 12, barring any catastrophes before that. If I pass, I’ll graduate December 13 th . Fingers crossed! Phoebe had all of the usual fun college student things happ
