Is It Summer Yet?

Only five days until class ends, but I think I'm already on vacation in my head. Not a good thing. So, this weekend, I played pretty hard, which was fun. Friday night, I took some of Kristi's kids to the drive-in to watch Monsters University. This was a first for them. We spread out sleeping pads, sleeping bags, and pillows in the back of Dad's pick-up and I rigged up the stereo so we would have sound. Of course, everyone but Ellie was asleep before the end, they were more interested in the treats I brought than the movie, but hey.....it's not really about seeing the movie, right. In fact, Ainsley looked up and said, "Look at how bright the stars are," and we enjoyed the stars for a few minutes. We left before the second show--"Lone Ranger"--because I definitely cannot stay awake that late. Saturday morning, Joelle and I loaded up some kayaks and headed to Mack's Inn to float down the river. We got in at the Big Springs Boat Launch

Street Festival

Kristi and Terry have been hosting some dancers from Colombia this week, which is keeping them very busy. Jodi has also been visiting with Evan's family this week, so we all got together, along with my parents, and went to the street parade for the International Dance Festival. We got rained on, but not too bad, and the kids had fun dancing to the music and meeting the dancers.

Color Run

So, my friend Paula has been getting into running the last few months, and I decided to do this Color Run 5K with her, even though I haven't quite built back up to a 5K. This race was a blast either way. We were all doused in color before the race even began....people were all spraying each other at the starting line. And if they someone that looked too devoid of color, they'd make them rainbow-colored in seconds. I ran the first mile and then petered out and walked the rest. Paula could have kept going, but she stayed by my side. It was fun getting sprayed at the different color stops. At the finish line, everyone gathered together in a big group and they counted down and they threw color in the air. I wish I had had a camera for that moment....it looked so cool. Glad I put a bandana on my head to keep it out of my hair. A bunch of my ward members showed up with multi-colored hair on Sunday. One girl's hair turned a very pretty lilac color.

Happy Fourth

So, on the fourth of July, I decided to be all ambitious and host a family breakfast at my house. Luckily, Kami, my gardner this summer, worked hard all week and got the lawn and patio looking spiffy. Then, Dad came over early and helped flip pancakes while I made French toast. Shawn and Kristi came with their families, as well as Amy's brother and his family. Everyone brought yummy food and we had a great feast. After breakfast we went to the parade in Rexburg. There seemed to be a few more floats this year, which was nice. My favorite was the Thriller dance that the Straw Maze did. Those kids were totally rocking out. I decided that it bugs me when parents stand up by the kids and sort of oversee the candy gathering. Sheesh, back off! After the parade I hung out in my parents nice cold basement and read a book, then I went for a drive with them to Kilgore, home through Island Park, with a nice stop at the Frost Top for a burger, fries, and root beer float.
