Graduation!

Teaching at BYUI, I get to attend a lot of graduations, but this one was extra special because we had our very own graduate--Austin! It felt so great to see one of our kids accomplish this great goal and head off to Phoenix to work in software engineering.  While lining up for commencement, I bumped into a high-school friend, Marci Wasden Field, who completed her Bachelors via online classes. So fun to see her! It's always fun to chat with colleagues before we march in. One of the traditions of graduation is that the faculty line the walkway and clap for the students as they march through to commencement. I remember how touching that was to me when I graduated from Ricks. Before Austin's convocation, we had a little refreshment sponsored by his department and got a few pictures of Austin's little family. Since Austin has a large college, their convocation was held in the Hart Auditorium. We sat on the bleachers so that Andy could run around--she is an

Hailstorm from Heck

Well, it's that time of year where the semester is wrapping up. As usual, that means I only have a few things left to grade and so I'm updating my blog instead. :) This is a picture of me and one of my students. It doesn't seem obvious in this picture, but we look a lot alike. In fact, one day after class, we were chatting and I said, "Do you feel like we look alike" and she said, "Yes!" I told a couple of my friends who have her in other classes and they said, "oh my goodness, yes you do look alike." So we joke around that I'm her birth mom, because she said she doesn't look like anyone else in her family.   Caleb had a great run at the Madison Track Meet. He was placed in the slower heat for the mile, but after the first lap, he just pulled into the lead and stayed there. At one point he was way ahead of everyone else, kind of like Isaac in the good old days. I think it shocked his coaches, so he will be running in the faster h

Birthday and More Birthdays

Kory and I like to go to the Teton Grill, but we decided The Tomahawk--three pounds of meat--is a bit much for us....  Andy had her first birthday, a Moana-themed luau where we got to take pics with her and watch her demolish her first cake. She is walking and on the move and we love her so much.  Chloe liked playing with Leah's parents' dog--pretending she had one of her own.  Here is a shot of the paparazzi who were taking pics of Andy's every move on her birthday. What a loved baby! A hilarious birthday present from my friend and coworker, Kristen. We both love the X Files. Kory and I did a morningside for a Relief Society in Ammon and this mother daughter team explained how they had recorded some of his songs on a CD. The mom is suffering from cancer and only has a short time to live and his songs have meant a lot to them. We have a little twelve-year-old in the house. Phoebe broke her in by doing some eyebrows and mascara on
