I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.
In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student teach at Skyline High School from November to March. Kory's employers were very generous in letting him take his lunch hour to teach that class. The months that followed were very intense. Kory was working a full-time job, plus preparing lessons every night for seminary, and preparing for a night class at BYUI which he teaches once a week. We saw very little of him, as he was usually in his office prepping a lesson. There were a lot of worries and doubts. In fact, I made Kory this sign, so that he wouldn't get too down on himself.
In May, when they were letting people know if they were hired, I had a strong impression that he would teach again. But I also told Kory my story of getting hired at BYUI. I was living and working in Utah, and had a strong impression to apply at BYUI. At the time, I wasn't very interested in moving, but I decided to follow the prompting. I applied and didn't even get an interview. I thought it was strange, because my impression had been VERY strong, and not something I had necessarily had in mind for myself. I just kind of shrugged it off, but then a month or so later, I was called by BYUI and asked to take a one-year position.
Sure enough, that same day, Kory found out that he did not get hired. They told him that they would consider him if something opened up in the area. We just thought we'd have to wait another year. Then a couple of weeks later, right before dinner one night, Kory received a call letting him know that there was a position in the area and he would be hired back. We were overwhelmed at this blessing.
Kory is thrilled to be teaching at Madison High School this coming Fall.
Hooray!!!
