Fall Has Fled

Well, somehow a whole month has slipped by. Working and juggling home life can be pretty crazy, but here are some updates. Some of these are old pictures that I only recently downloaded to my computer, so bear with.

Obviously, school started. It was too hard to get the teenager together with the little ones, so we just have Chloe, going into 4th, and Caleb into 6th. Those Walmart fake nails of Chloe's were all off by the time she got home.

Isaac has been having an interesting cross country season. He had to sit out a couple of races, so his first race was Tiger Grizzly. Unfortunately, he had a horrible head cold. So, he had been downing cold medicine (not a good idea, just fyi), and took off running. He was in the top five most of the race, but as he rounded the home stretch, I thought, "oh no." He did not look good. Totally white faced and it looked like his muscles were cramping up, so he collapsed a few yards from the finish line. After about thirty seconds, he dragged himself across, but he was in bad shape--hallucinating, talking weird, etc. We were trying to get liquids down him and checked with some doctors to see if we needed to take him to the hospital, but he pretty much slept for two days straight and seemed to be okay. We were so relieved. It was really sad to see him like that.

The next week he ran in Missoula, and took 15th out of about 900 runners from schools in a bunch of different states. The next week he ran Blackfoot and took first. This week he went to Twin Falls and took first there. We're happy he's having a great senior year. Lots of schools are looking at him to run in college, but he's pretty set on getting out on a mission.

Caleb has been moving on up in Scouts. He will turn twelve in a couple of weeks and be passing the sacrament. He also got his camo belt in karate. Now he wants to try kung fu.

A couple of months ago, we went to dinner with some of Kory's friends who taught seminary with him in Vernal. We had a great time eating and chatting for a few hours. Great people. BJ, the baldy on the right is the one that set Kory and I up, so we are forever indebted to him.

It's kind of strange having two high school students at two different high schools. Both of them had Homecoming festivities in the last little while. Phoebe's too young to go to the dance, but she did awesome in the powder puff game. In fact, one of the basketball coaches saw her and said, "You are fast. We want you to try out for the team." So, Phoebe has been having Madison help her with her shooting every night after school. She also thinks she's ready to take driver's ed, so look out world.

Isaac and Hannah went to Idaho Falls High Schools' Homecoming Dance with a bunch of friends. They had a photographer do some great group shots before. Hannah graduated in May and is working, saving money for her mission. She and Isaac will leave around the same time if all goes as planned.

Our old Toyota 4 Runner turned over to 200,000 miles, so now we hold our breath and see when it dies.

This is just a random dogpile......er, shark/bear pile on a Sunday afternoon.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
