Playing Hooky at the Shakespeare Festival

So, I abandoned my responsibilities for a few days and went down to Cedar City to the Shakespeare Festivals. The kids here at home were all great to pitch in and take care of each other, and Kory took a day off work and did lots of fun things with them while I was gone--Fat Cats, Chukars game, Leo's Place, etc.

I drove with my mom and sister, Kristi, down to Provo to pick up my Aunt Linda, who is a die hard Shakespeare Festival attendee--she sees every play every year. After that we stopped at my sister Jodi's for dinner and then drove down to Cedar City and checked in to our hotel.

The next morning we made it to the seminar to discuss the plays, but got soaked on our way in with rain. After the seminars, we ate on campus and then headed to our first matinee--Amadeus. David Ivers was great as Salieri and the sets and costumes were incredible. Mozart seemed like a bit of an idiot, but the show was great.

After that, we ate dinner at the Pastry Pub and geared up for the first Shakespeare play, Henry the IV Part 2. Unfortunately, we got rained on for a good hour of the show, so all of us were soaking....since we had front row seats. They paused the play for awhile and reseated us where we were covered. But, it wasn't the greatest first experience for Kristi and my mom.

The next morning, we went to a new play reading called Caesar's Blood, which was about John Wilkes Boothe and his brothers. It was a fascinating play and we all loved it. After that, we ate a snack in the courtyard and then went to South Pacific, I'm a little embarrassed to say that even though I was in this play in high school, I really had no clue what it was about. So, it was nice to actually see what the plot was all about. The singers were fantastic, the sets incredible....top notch show. That night, we saw The Taming of the Shrew and we did NOT get rained on and we all loved the show and laughed and laughed.

Our last day, we went to the Props Seminar and then saw the matinee of Charley's Aunt, a really funny slapstick show. After that we went up the canyon and ate at Rusty's. We were all full after a few bites. That night we saw King Lear, and I followed it pretty well.

It was fun to bond with my mom, aunt, and sister and share our thoughts and ideas about the plays and just eat and laugh and have a good time. Kristi and I went out walking/running up the canyon each morning, and it was really pretty.

On the way home today we stopped at Jodi's and Dave and Kelley's for a few minutes and treated ourselves to lunch at Maddox's Drive In in Brigham City before we headed home.

What a fun getaway!

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te...

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with m...
