Playing Hooky at the Shakespeare Festival

So, I abandoned my responsibilities for a few days and went down to Cedar City to the Shakespeare Festivals. The kids here at home were all great to pitch in and take care of each other, and Kory took a day off work and did lots of fun things with them while I was gone--Fat Cats, Chukars game, Leo's Place, etc. I drove with my mom and sister, Kristi, down to Provo to pick up my Aunt Linda, who is a die hard Shakespeare Festival attendee--she sees every play every year. After that we stopped at my sister Jodi's for dinner and then drove down to Cedar City and checked in to our hotel.  The next morning we made it to the seminar to discuss the plays, but got soaked on our way in with rain. After the seminars, we ate on campus and then headed to our first matinee--Amadeus. David Ivers was great as Salieri and the sets and costumes were incredible. Mozart seemed like a bit of an idiot, but the show was great.  After that, we ate dinner at the Pastry Pub a...

Jackpot and Twin Falls

Kory and I took a little overnighter this last weekend. We decided to drive to Jackpot for the night and then explore around Twin Falls a little bit. No, we do not have a secret gambling addiction. We just like to go on short road trips and this was just a couple of hours away and .... why not. So, we got there, got checked in, ate the all-you-can eat seafood buffet.  And yes, the seafood was as you might expect in Nevada. ;) Here's Kory wrestling with some lobster. The next morning we took off bright and early and drove to Balanced Rock, a little local site that I'd never really heard of about half an hour outside of Twin Falls. It was a fun little side expedition. Then we went to Twin Falls, ate breakfast, and walked around the visitor's center and walked along the rim of the canyon. The drive back was somewhat impeded by the thick smoke from the wildfires. I was feeling really sick to my stomach and my eyes and throat were pretty...

Last Hurrah

I was feeling kind of sentimental yesterday as the kids worked on their checklists for the last time. They really are pretty cute. One of the things on the checklist is read a chapter in a book. Morgan has been reading Dork Diaries. She always gets her book, goes into the piano room, selects Claire de Lune from the pre-recorded songs on the electric piano and listens to it while she reads. So cute. We wanted to do one last fun thing, and we had talked about going to Heise. However, the weather wasn't really super warm and we had a lot of other things going on like Scouts and school registration, so we opted to go to the Artitorium for a few hours. This time Phoebe came too, and we had a good time. After Kory got home, we loaded up and went to the Chukars game, because it was Melaleuca night. We ate cheap hotdogs, chips, and pop and watched what we could of the show. The little kids lose interest pretty fast at these things. Caleb became obsessed with the mas...

Last Week of Summer

This was technically our last week to do fun stuff this summer, since the kids will be with their mom and then I will be gone on a trip the last week of August. So, we tried to pack in a lot of things we had hoped to do this summer. On Tuesday we went to Mesa Falls and had a picnic. The highlight of that trip was trying to help Morgan get the courage to use the pit bathroom. She was afraid something was going to come up out of that hole. After three or four different tries, I held her hand while she went and she made it. :) One the way home we stopped at the Sugar City park and then had gelati from Kari Ann's in Rexburg. Wednesday was the annual Kunz Lagoon Day. We took a caravan of three cars down and spent the day at Lagoon. I spent most of the day with Kory, Morgan, and Caleb, because those kids aren't quite ready to try all of the scary rides. I have never been a fan of anything that turns me upside down. But I don't mind spinning. I took the litttle ...

Gee Reunion

Every other year my dad's extended family gets together for a reunion and it's a blast. I love seeing all of my Gee cousins. Of course, all of my siblings were in from out of town, so we did our own little reunion prior to that. On Thursday, we met at Tautphas Park for a picnic and to go to the zoo. I took a few shots. On Friday we went hiking in the morning, then met at Squealers in Rigby for fun and food. After that, we met at the church to do a humanitarian activity of coloring little activity book things. This ended up being such a great time to visit and do some coloring therapy. That night we had a big dinner at the church and a short program with some singing and such. Sadly and happily, my Aunt Marilyn passed away right before the reunion, so we had the funeral on Saturday. After suffering from multiple sclerosis for about forty years, she was able to leave this life and move on to a place where she was no longer bound ...
