December 2021

December 2021

On December 4, we had a bridal shower for Kami Gee in Rexburg. It was fun to visit with friends and family and support the beautiful bride. On December 5, we took the kids to church at The Gables, an assisted living center in our ward. Since Kory is the Elder’s Quorum President, he is asked to attend once a month, so we took the kids along and they really enjoyed it. On December 9, we took Morgan to get hot chocolate and saw the Owen’s Family Light Show.

On December 15, BYU-Idaho had its first in-person graduation in a couple of years. It was fun to have everyone gathered again. On December 17, we celebrated the beginning of Christmas Break by taking the kids out to eat at Panda Express. That night was Kami’s wedding reception. I went a little early to help set up and then hung out the whole time, visiting with family. David and Jodi both came to town for it. The reception was pretty with lots of live trees with white lights and a cookie and hot chocolate bar for treats. On December 18 we went to my mom’s house for lunch with all our family and the Kearns family. After that, we headed to the Idaho Falls temple for pictures and then had a late ceremony at 4:30. It was beautiful and these two are such a great couple. They were able to leave on their honeymoon right after the ceremony and begin their married life. They are both attending BYU-Idaho.

On December 21, we took a bunch of the kids to Spiderman: No Way Home. On December 22, Kory and I went with Austin and his kids to the aquarium. On the 22nd we just hung out with the kids and that night went to a Gee Cousin Party at Lanette Carter’s house in Rexburg. We had a great time eating, visiting, and playing Rollick, which has become a yearly tradition. I love hanging with my cousins. They are all such great people.

On the 24th we had a Christmas Eve celebration. We made breakfast together and feasted, then hung out playing video games, doing puzzles, making gingerbread houses, and just chilling. That night we sang some Christmas carols, watched the Nativity, and let some of the grandkids open their Christmas presents. The kids hung out in the basement playing video games and watching movies until late.

On Christmas morning, we all slept in pretty late, but we all eventually got up and opened presents. Kory was super excited for a new (used) set of golf clubs, I got a golf pushcart, and the kids exchanged gifts. Most of the kids had already gotten a big gift early—concert tickets, trips, computers—so Caleb was the only one with a big gift—a Playstation. As a family gift, we got an Oculus, so everyone had fun taking turns playing with it. We had some more breakfast and then the kids headed over to their mom’s house.

Kory and I went to my parents’ house in Sugar City for a big Christmas feast and then hung out singing, visiting, watching football, etc. On the 31st, Kory and I just chilled and ordered some takeout. Chloe came by with some friends to play with the Oculus. Lots of people had COVID at this point, so there weren’t a lot of big gatherings.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te...

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with m...
