March 2021

March 2021

On March 1 I took my cute nieces Maddie and Kami to lunch on campus. Such amazing girls.

On March 5 we had our first in-person choir concert of the year. Caleb had solos in some of the group numbers as well as his own solo of Johnny Cash’s “Hurt.” He did an amazing job. He sounded so much like Johnny Cash that someone asked us if he was lip synching.

On the 6th we got to babysit sweet little Aidan for a few hours. He’s so cute.

On the 9th we had the plumber come to check some drains and from one bathroom he pulled out “the longest hair clog I have ever seen.” Since it’s a shower we don’t usually use, I’m guessing this hair clog may go back ten years! Who knows. I didn’t know if we should feel proud or……disturbed.

On March 12, Kory and I went to our usual Island Park destination for my birthday weekend. I turned 50 on the 13th. Kory had arranged to get a note or letter to me from all of our kids and my siblings and their families. He put it all together in a binder and I read it on the way up to the hotel, crying quite a bit. Kory felt happy because I am not a cryer. It was very touching to me. We watched some movies and got pizza at the Mack’s Inn Pizza Parlor right by the hotel.

On the 13th, we got up and had breakfast and sat in the hot tub for awhile. We had stuff to go snowshoeing, but we were feeling kind of lazy, so didn’t end up going. On the way back home, we stopped at my parents’ house and visited for a while. We got back home and did some errands, then later went to dinner at Jaker’s. It was a nice birthday.

On the 16th, Austin’s family and Kory and the kids went to Reed’s Dairy for a treat and then we came back here and hung out, watching Spongebob, singing, and playing with the kids.

On the 17th, I went to lunch with Mom, Amy, Kristi, and Joelle at Fresco’s. It was fun to visit with all of them.

On the 20th, we headed down to St George with Isaac, Caleb, Chloe, and Morgan. Right before we got into the car, Chloe threw up. We thought it was nothing. She proceeded to throw up ten more times on the trip down to St. George and a couple of more times once we got there. We felt so bad that she had such a miserable trip. We loved our Airbnb and the healthy kids went out to the pool and then they stayed up watching movies. Grandpa and Karen stopped by for a bit and brought us some treats.

On Sunday, Chloe felt better, but Caleb started throwing up, so we decided not to go to church with Kory’s sister like we had planned, to see if anyone else started showing signs of sickness. We just kind of relaxed around the house. That afternoon, we took everyone but Caleb to Nicole’s house and had dinner with Nicole’s family, Lori’s family, and Grandpa and Karen. It was so fun to visit with all of the siblings and cousins. I haven’t been down to St. George for about five years, so it was fun for me to tag along. Because so many things were online this semester, I was able to teach my classes from St. George.

On Monday, I was busy teaching all day. The kids played at the pool and went and got Swig and Chik Fil A. That night we all piled in the hottub. Later we ordered pizza and watched a movie together—Madagascar 2.

On Tuesday, it was Chloe’s birthday. I was busy with work stuff, but Kory took the kids to the mall, and later we ate at Texas Roadhouse for Chloe’s birthday. We brought grandpa and Karen with us to dinner, and then later stopped by their house to meet Karen’s dogs. That night, Kory, Chloe, and Isaac did a puzzle.

On Wednesday, I taught my class in the morning. That afternoon Kory, Isaac, and I went on a bike ride on the Virgin River Trail. It’s a great path that runs down through St. George along the Virgin River. We biked about 10 miles or so, and ended up biking right to Lori’s house. She took us back to our car, and then we went back to the house to meet up with Caleb, Chloe, and Morgan, who had been swimming. Then, we headed out to the airport and Dakota, Lori’s son, took Isaac, Caleb, and Chloe on a plane ride. He has been working on getting his hours to be a pilot. There was only room for three, so Kory, Morgan, and I stayed on the ground and waited for them. He flew them out over Zion National Park, so they saw some pretty scenery. That night, we all met up at Lori’s house for a barbeque. We had fun visiting again and were sad that our time went so quickly.

Thursday we got up and packed up and started our journey back. It was a fun trip. Really relaxing, with a great place with a nice pool that kept the kids occupied. The weather wasn’t quite as warm as we hoped, but at least it wasn’t snowing like it did in Idaho while we were gone. We were really glad to have a fun trip with the kids and make some great memories.

Kory and I worked on Friday. The kids slept in, hung out, and spent time with friends. Austin and Leah and a few of the older kids were around Friday night and we had pizza, played video games, and just had fun playing with the kids.

On Saturday, Kory, Caleb, and I went to Sunnyside Elementary with Austin’s family. That afternoon we and a bunch of the family met at Lakyn’s new apartment and helped her set up beds and unpack.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te...

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with m...
