May 2020

On May 2, we had a cookout and party for Madison’s birthday. The kids had fun playing badminton, volleyball, and roasting marshmallows. We were excited to see Kenzie and Ryker. Kenzie was coming up on her due date for her baby and was keeping away from most gatherings to avoid the COVID virus.

On May 4, we honored Star Wars day by watching the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back.
Since so many people were working from home, Austin and Leah decided to come up for a few weeks from Arizona. Everyone was excited to see them!

We were also excited to have LaRell back from St. George for the summer. We had a nice fire with s’mores at Josh and Kasey’s. We were blessed with some really nice weather in May.

On May 10, we invited my parents over for Mother’s Day. We had sacrament and Come Follow Me together and then Kory cooked a great pork chop dinner for everyone. It was fun to spend some time with my parents.

On May 11, Kenzie had her second son (our fifth grandbaby) Aiden Thomas Brown. She had a c-section and everything went smoothly. We were excited to meet him in-person a couple of days later when she was able to come home.

Austin and Leah brought a 1500-piece Disney villain puzzle for us to work on it took most of the week of May 11-17. Kory and Phoebe were the ones who pushed through on May 15 and finished it around midnight.

On May 16, Kory and I got new bikes so that we’d have enough bikes to take the kids on bike rides. We celebrated by riding down to Snake River Landing with Phoebe and Caleb.

Chloe finished her home-schooling on May 15. Caleb had to retake a geometry test and then he was done, and Morgan finished on May 22. They were all excited to be done, sad that they never got to say good-bye to their teachers and friend, and they are hoping that school will be somewhat normal in the fall. Kory also finished teaching and is now on his summer schedule. He still works, but he is doing preparation for next school year, so summers are pretty relaxed. I’m the only one who is still “teaching” and it has gotten a little bit harder to get work done at home with everyone else on vacation. I head to my office in Rexburg when things get too crazy.
On Sunday the 17th, the morning was beautiful, so Kory and I went for a walk on the Green Belt with Austin and Leah and the girls. Then we got everyone up for church and had our meeting. Then we celebrated Isaac’s birthday with pizza, cake, and his presents—a record player and records. I guess record players are now cool again. Go figure. Isaac was also happy that his girlfriend Carlie came from San Diego for his birthday to stay for a week. The kids played games, watched movies, and then we went for another walk along the Green Belt that night.

On May 19, Shane, Josh’s son, got baptized. They were only allowed to have their family and LaRell there, but afterward we had a get together at Josh and Kasey’s with pizza. After that, we went to Reed’s Dairy for ice-cream so that Carlie could try it.

On the 23rd, we had a big snowstorm. Austin and Leah came over and made omelets for everyone and Kory went outside and built a snowman with Andy. Kory could only find a straight stick for the mouth, so the snowman does not look very excited—about as excited as we were to have snow at the end of May.

On the 24th we had our home church again. We had fun having the kids act out the Alma the Younger story. We went for a walk as a family, enjoying the lack of snow.

May 25th was Memorial Day and we went to Victor for the day. The kids enjoyed riding four-wheelers, visiting the cemetery and we had a cookout with Josh and Jared’s families.

On May 27th, Madi and Quinton brought over their new Corgi dog and the kids had fun playing with it. That was also Stevie’s first birthday and so we had cake and ice-cream and presents that night at our house.

On the 28th, after work, Kory and I took Morgan to Jensen Grove Park in Blackfoot and we rode our bikes around the lake. We followed the bike path down by the Snake River and were having a fun ride until Kory’s front tire went flat from a Goat’s Head thorn. Morgan and I waited on a bench while Kory rode my bike back to the car, then came and picked us up. We celebrated our efforts by eating at Arby’s and getting pie at the Homestead.

Things are slowly getting back to normal in Idaho, but things will probably still be different when school starts up in the Fall. I have actually enjoyed everyone being at home doing things together during the quarantine. Hopefully we can keep up some of those activities even now we are free! Phoebe and Isaac have headed back to work at the Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse.
On May 31, Grandpa Kunz and the missionaries joined us for our church service. After church and lunch, we went to Kenzie’s so that Grandpa could hold baby Aiden.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
