April 2020
Well, we don’t have much to report since our calendars were
wiped clean and we couldn’t leave the house. But we did have a lot of fun
together as a family and it was nice to have everyone home. We wrapped up the
BYUI semester and turned in grades. We did slip in a couple of dentist visits
for Morgan and Caleb. We started the new, completely online semester at BYUI,
which has been a little weird, but not horrible.
The first weekend of April was General Conference. It was
memorable as the 200th anniversary of the First Vision. There were
no general meetings of conference. It was all livestreamed from a small room in
Salt Lake. All of the speakers were spaced apart from each other, etc. We also
participated in a solemn assembly and hosanna shout on Sunday morning. The kids
were pretty good about listening (or appearing to listen) to all the sessions.
One fun thing we started doing with my family was Sunday
Zoom calls, which allowed us to visit with our siblings who aren’t nearby. I
really enjoyed it and we did it each week.
On April 8, the weather got a little
nicer, so Kory, Phoebe and I went for a bike ride down to Snake River Landing.
We also bought a badminton set for the kids and they had fun playing in the
back yard.
On April 13, Kory decided his hair was too long and asked ME
of all people to cut it. I’ve never cut anyone’s hair in my life. I said he
should ask Phoebe, since she wants to go to to hair school, so she gave it a
whirl and did a great job.
On April 18, we took out the grill and firepit and had a
little backyard barbeque, which felt nice and summery.
With two of us working from home, and Isaac, Caleb, Chloe,
and Morgan doing school too, we all had to find our little corner of the house
to work on our stuff. It’s worked fairly well. Kory still goes into his office
a few times a week.
For a lot of the month, the kids were playing board and card
games, but they finally got burnt out from that and we started working on
puzzles together, so that’s our current phase. Also, the kids got tired of
sitting around and have started working out, running, eating healthy. It’s
pretty funny to watch everyone’s evolution during lockdown.
Caleb started the online class part of Driver’s Ed and I
took him down to the intersection to observe.
