February 2020

February 2020
We always join Kory’s brothers for a SuperBowl watching party and this year everyone was pretty excited because the Kansas City Chiefs were in the game. Kory grew up in Lawrence, about half an hour from Kansas City, and he is a loyal fan to all of the Kansas teams. So, there was A LOT of hype for this one. In fact, when they were trailing for a while, Kory went upstairs and played on his phone so that he wouldn’t jinx the team. Let’s just say there were some VERY happy people when they won. And the food was great. I never really watch the game, because…. I don’t really understand football. But I love visiting and eating.

On February 4th, we had Friend’s birthday party. That week I played the piano for a musical number with people from the English Department for the All-Employee meeting. It was a little out-of-the-ordinary for the English Department to be asked and we all said, “Well, not bad for a bunch of English professors.” If they wanted experts I guess they would’ve asked the Music Department. On the 7th, Kory and I went to the Religious Education Fireside and Elder Bednar was the speaker. He always has a lot of good insights.

On February 8th, we went to my mom and dad’s for a little gathering because Caden was giving his mission report the next day and a lot of people were in town. We had fun eating and visiting. He gave his talk the next day in their old Burton ward and did a great job. On the 13th, there was a fireside on campus for all of the female faculty and wives of faculty and employees, so Kristi, me, and my mom met up and had a nice time together.

For Valentine’s I stopped by and gave my parents a little Valentine—which didn’t really compare to Evan’s five pounds of Florence’s he gives them each year! On the 17th, Kory and I took the kids to Farmington for an overnighter—kind of as an anniversary trip, but also because it was a three-day weekend and so we had some extra time. We headed down on Saturday morning, listening to some awesome music on the way.

We decided to introduce the kids to Maddox Ranch House restaurant in Brigham City. We got in without a wait and everyone seemed to like their meal.

Then, we headed to the Hyatt hotel at Farmington Station, where we’ve stayed before, and checked in. Then, since it’s right by a shopping mall, everyone paired up and went shopping—Chloe and Phoebe, me and Morgan, and Caleb and Kory. After a few hours, we met back at the hotel and Morgan and Caleb went swimming. For dinner we went to Zupa’s. After that, the kids waited for the pool to clear out a bit, and then swam again.

Once I laid down on the bed after dinner, I was kind of out of it, so I got some good sleep. On Sunday, we ate breakfast at the hotel and went to sacrament meeting at a nearby church. We drove home, with everyone taking naps and chilling. It was a quick trip, but the kids really enjoyed it and it’s fun to get away from all of your responsibilities for awhile.
Kory and I celebrated our sixth wedding anniversary on the 15th. We did a lot of reminiscing all weekend and just telling each other how much we love each other. It’s kind of a crazy life we lead but we love each other so much and it makes everything worthwhile.
On the 26th we went to Chloe’s History Day Parent Night. She and Cassidy did a project on the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire. That same night, Caleb’s Drama class presented a short play called Dearly Beloved. Caleb’s character was supposed to be drugged/drunk and out of it the whole time, so he would randomly yell totally crazy things that made no sense. He did a great job. On the 27th, we went to Chloe’s choir concert.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te...

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with m...
