September

September meant that BYUI got back into the swing of things. But on the home front, Chloe had her initial appointment at the orthodontist for braces. Caleb was going strong with cross country. We tried to get Isaac and Phoebe all prepped for school with lots of shopping trips for clothes, food, computers, etc. One day we took Morgan to the library and she wasn’t too interested in any books until she realized she could get books in French.

I had my usual back to school meetings, but we also had a faculty member in my department die of cancer and her funeral was that week, so that was kind of sobering. Kory was made Elder’s Quorum President, so he has had a lot of meetings and things to get done. He’s doing a great job. I was able to finally schedule the defense for my dissertation! It will be on November 12, barring any catastrophes before that. If I pass, I’ll graduate December 13th. Fingers crossed!
Phoebe had all of the usual fun college student things happen in her first week. Getting booted, having your battery die, etc. Luckily she had her dad and my dad handy to get it going again. Isaac is rooming with some mission friends and was called to be Elder’s Quorum President, so he’s kind of stressed out about that.  It’s nice that they have each other up there and they have hung out a lot and gone on some fun group dates.

On the 27th, Caleb, me, Kory, Kenzie, and Greg went to a concert at the Ogden Amphitheatre. It was a band Kenzie liked, Rufus du Sol and she got us tickets for Kory’s birthday. So, we met down there. There were a couple of opening bands, so it was about a four-hour concert, which was a little too much for Caleb, but I think he liked it. It was fun to people watch and I told Kory I thought we were probably the oldest people there. Caleb went back with Kenzie and Greg, while Kory and I went to Linden and stayed at Halle’s house.

In the morning, we took Kory’s dad and headed down to Fairview for the funeral of Kory’s Aunt Peggy (his mom’s sister). Mike, Lori, and Nicole drove up from St. George to meet us at the funeral. It was fun to connect with cousins and relatives. Kory played “In a Coming Day” for all of the granddaughters to sing and it sounded great. Kory loved seeing his cousin and former college roommate, Mike Ricks. Kory and I treated ourselves to Swig and In n Out on the way home. I also saw some really funny graffiti in the restroom at the Flying J. It said, “This drunk octopus wants to fight you and hold your purse,” around the coat hanger. I took a picture to illustrate.
That was about it for September!

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
