The month of June was pretty rainy, with a few sunny days
thrown in. I didn’t mind, because that made it easier to be inside working. On
June 7, the English Department had a retreat at Harriman State Park. Even though
it was wet and cool, we still had a nice walk and things went pretty smoothly.
On
that same day, Kory took the kids up to Victor to hang out with his dad for his
birthday. They had fun 4-wheeling and taking Grandpa to lunch at O’Rourke’s.
Maybe because it was so stormy all month, I kept coming home
and finding Kory reading. He had randomly picked up a John Stockton biography
for his dad’s birthday and decided to read it. He loved it. So, we took a trip
to the library and stocked him up with a bunch of biographies of his favorite
golfers and musicians. He has been reading like a demon ever since. I never thought
I’d see the day!
Another fun little quirk of Kory’s is how precise he is
about everything he does. He has Sunday dinner planned down to the second. I
took a picture of how he had everything laid out before church one Sunday.
On June 12, I attended the Seminary and Institute lunch and
broadcast with Kory. Elder Holland was the featured speaker, so we both enjoyed
that a lot. From the 13-15, Caleb had a stake Youth Conference at Utah State in
Logan. He had a great time.
On the 15th, we took Chloe and Phoebe to Utah,
stopping in Logan to pick up Caleb, and went down to Highland for Jenna Kunz’s
wedding. The ceremony, dinner, and reception were at Highland Gardens. We
checked into our hotel before, and then the kids came back later and had fun
playing in the pool. I took off for a few hours and visited with my friends Annie
and Wendy, who live in Lehi/Pleasant Grove.
The first few weeks of June, I registered Phoebe and Isaac
for their fall semester classes. It was kind of an eye-opener to deal with
registration. Usually, I only see things from the teacher’s side. I think they
both got the classes they wanted.
On June 18, Kory and I took Lakyn to dinner at Fuji for her birthday.
Morgan was in Utah for a couple of weeks with her dad, so she didn’t join us
that time.
On June 20, we had a little birthday party for my dad’s 75th
birthday. It was just Kory and I and Kristi and Terry’s family. We had a nice
time.
I couldn’t resist taking a picture of Kory after we ate out
one night. He asked me if he had anything in his teeth and there was this huge
green piece of lettuce right on his front tooth. I had to snap a picture of
that.
On June 23, Kory and I decided to take a hike out at Hell’s
Half Acre. We only ended up doing a short loop because the ground was really
rocky and uneven and it took a lot of climbing and scrambling to not trip. It
was fun though. After that, we drove out through the desert and ended up in
Dubois. We had lunch at the diner in Spencer and then drove back to Idaho Falls.
A fun little road trip.
On Wednesday the 26th, Caleb was the only one
home that night, so Kory and I took him to the driving range at Sandcreek Golf
Course. He’s still working on his swing, but he did great. Since the girls are
always off with friends, we’ve had a lot of fun one-on-one time with Caleb and
it’s been great.
On Friday the 28th, Kory took the kids over to
Leah’s parents’ house to see new baby Stevie. They each got a turn holding her.
Then, they brought Andy back to play at our house for the afternoon. She had a
great time and Caleb is still her favorite.
That night, the girls were all
gone, so we took Caleb to a Chukar’s game. He was a lot more interested in the
hot dog than the game, but it was a fun night.
Another project Kory worked on throughout June was
submitting a few songs for the new hymn book and children’s song book. He
submitted two of his own, one that he wrote with my dad’s lyrics. My mom also
submitted a song, and Kory helped Grandma Andrus submit a bunch of songs. It’s
a long shot for all of these songs, but it was still a fun project to play
around with.
On the 30th, we invited everyone over for Sunday dinner and it was a fun afternoon hanging out together.
