Our State Fair is the Best State Fair--Sing With Me Now

We've been busy with fall stuff--back to school, fairs, etc. Lovin' the corn on the cob, and Phoebe is loving eating it without braces.

We always enjoy our Sunday  night visits in Sugar City. Here's some of the usual shenanigans.

On Labor Day, Kory and I took Chloe and Caleb to Victor--everyone else had to work or had other plans. We took some 4-wheeler rides, ate ribs, visited, and enjoyed the beauty of Victor. Caleb felt the need for a nap. It was actually pretty chilly up in Victor that day.

Friday we got Isaac checked in up on campus, took him to lunch, and then later went to the parent/student meetings. BYUI does a good job of orienting students. After the meetings were over, we waited while Isaac auditioned for Men's Choir and he was SO HAPPY that he made it. That has been his biggest hope all summer, because he loves listening to the BYU Men's Choir. We weren't too teary dropping him off since he's taking a class from each of us this semester, so we'll be able to keep an eye on him.

Today we enjoyed the state fair. Kory decided to really take his life in his hands and try the chicken-fried bacon. It was a decision he regretted more and more throughout the day. Then we enjoyed some Mexican corn and a surprisingly delicious carmel dipped Twizzler, but then I'm a licorice girl.

Kory, later that night, taking his Tums

I visit teach a spunky, amazing 93-year-old woman, so I always check out her preserves at the fair. Here's one of her blue ribbons.

After the fair, we headed to Rigby for our Browning family reunion. Kory thought he wouldn't know anyone there outside of our family, but he ran into a cousin, an old student, some old EFY counselors, and a current student. (It's a small world.) We had lunch at the park in Rigby and visited. Jerry shared some pictures and stories of Grandma and Grandpa Browning and the family.

After that, we went out to Annis to the old Browning homestead. They had to tear down Grandma's house for safety reasons, but they salvaged some of the wood and are building this little picnic shelter, and made a cool flagpole with bricks representing each of the family members and then their descendants writing their names in the cement. We did some family pics, which, at this point, was just me and Kory and mom and dad.

After that we had dinner with Kory's family at Chuk-o-rama and then went to the evening session of stake conference. Busy, busy day!

  1. Wow! I can't believe all the stuff you packed into one day! I love the food pics! Once, I ate a deep fried Twinkie and later I thought I needed to go to the ER. Not recommended. What a fun, busy, active, full life you live!

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
