August 13

On Saturday, we got up early and did baptisms at the temple. Austin found some family names, and we also did some family names for some people in our ward. It was so great to be inside and have a functioning temple in Nauvoo. It's beautiful and decorated reflective of the Nauvoo era.

We headed back to the condo and changed and then headed down to visit the restored part of Nauvoo. We started with a horse-drawn cart ride through the town, where they tell you lots of interesting details about Nauvoo.

We visited some of the restored homes and the gravesite for Joseph Smith. Then we followed the Trail of Hope down to the Mississippi where the saints crossed on their way West. At the bank of the river is a statue of Joseph and Brigham, with Joseph directing Brigham what he needed to do. I had forgotten how much Joseph had already seen about the settlement of the West, and Brigham Young carried it out.

We went back home and rested for awhile. Then we ate dinner and went to the Sunset On the Mississippi show they put on at the visitor's center. We all loved it. It was funny and entertaining and uplifting. We were thrilled to happen to be there on the last night that Vocal Point was performing. Their song "Nearer My God to Thee" is Isaac's favorite, so we were happy when they sang it and he got to talk to a couple of them after.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with m...

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

January/February 2023

January 2023 On January 3 we helped Caleb move back into his apartment on campus and took Phoebe to Fuji for her birthday dinner. On the 7 th , we went to Austin and Leah’s and had some delicious Olive Garden takeout and watched some of Matilda the Musical. On January 12, we went through the Rexburg temple with my niece Maddie. On January 14 th , I went to a baby shower for my niece Kami. She is the first grandchild to have a baby, so this will be my parents first great-grandchild. On the 27 th , we had a new addition to our household. That afternoon, Phoebe asked me if there was any way we could consider getting another cat. Her friend had to move and wouldn’t be able to take the cat to the new location. For some reason, I agreed, and she picked him up that afternoon. He’s an orange cat, and was originally named Scar, but our girls named him Todd after the Fox and the Hound . Binx was NOT happy at the new family member. He hissed and growled at Todd, who didn’t seem overly c...
