June 2022

June 2022

At the beginning of June, my wonderful friend Wendy came up from Utah and helped me organize my kitchen and pantry. She brought all of these cool containers and a label maker and made it look really great. That’s one of the best gifts anyone could give me because I LOVE organizing things. On June 2, Kierstin Holland from the English department stopped by with Crumbl cookies and one of the most beautiful flow arrangements I’ve ever seen. On June 4, Austin and Leah came over and brought pizza for everyone. We had fun playing with the kids, and Leah asked Phoebe to cut Kelson’s hair because it was getting out of control!

On June 6 and 7, Kory and I went up to Island Park for a seminary teacher’s retreat. We stayed at Sawtelle Resort. We had dinner the night of the 6th at the church in Island Park. In the morning, we divided into smaller groups and went to some different sites around Island Park and related different things to the gospel—Big Springs, the reservoir, etc. It was a little cold, but so beautiful and I really enjoyed it. On the evening of the 7th, Kory went golfing at the golf course right by our house. Morgan came to have fun driving the cart, and I rode in the cart.

On June 16, we had everyone over for a birthday party for Lakyn. We were curious if our new house would feel too small when we had everyone over, but it worked great.

After that, we got to babysit Aiden for a few days while his parents were out of town. I was still healing from surgery and not allowed to lift anything, so Kory did most of the work with babysitting, but it was fun to bond with this cute little grandson.

On Father’s Day we took my dad a present and also got to visit with Kory’s dad when he stopped by. (Dad and I had fun watching Obi Wan Kenobi together for a few weeks.) That evening we went to Austin and Leah’s for dinner and had a great time playing with the grandkids and finishing up with some amazing karaoke by Andy and Stevie.

Chloe finished up her drives for Driver’s Ed and officially got her permit, so she’s out on the road! Yay! Morgan went to Girl’s Camp with our old ward in Idaho Falls from the 22-25.

On the 21st I got a colonoscopy and endoscopy to see if there was cancer somewhere in the GI tract. I was very happy when that all came back clean! Kory and I drove down to Utah for my follow-up appointment at Huntsman on June 27. The surgery incision looks good, and I’m officially recovered from that. Next step is chemotherapy in Idaho Falls to treat some little, microscopic dots of cancer they found in the lining of my abdomen during the surgery. I will have six doses of chemo, one every three weeks, so I think I will be done around November. This is the type of chemo where you lose your hair, so that should be fun. She also said that this type of cancer has a 70% recurrence rate, so it sounds like this will be something we’re monitoring long term.

Because I was feeling great (no longer carrying around a 30-pound tumor) I decided to go back to work to get ready for Fall semester. I was not teaching my classes, just doing administrative and other things I need to get done. Everyone was super sweet when I got back and lots of people stopped by to say hello. I really love working at BYU-Idaho.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
