November 2021

November 2021

On November 7 we had a birthday party for Morgy-Girl. She just turned the big 13! She wanted doughnuts instead of cake, so we got her a giant doughnut and the rest of us normal-sized doughnuts. When I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, she said “A crap-ton of Takis.” So, we bought her a bunch of Takis and she promptly made a salad and crumbled takis on the top. So, there you go.

On November 9, we went to see Caleb perform in the school play, “The Crucible.” He played Giles Corey and he was made to look like an old man. He did a great job with his lines and everyone in the cast did a great job.

From November 10-15, we got to babysit Aidan while his parents were on their honeymoon. It was a big chance to have a little toddler around, but we had so much fun with him. He’s a very chill baby and luckily Kory is great with kids!

The next week we all sort of took turns getting sick. I was so sick, I pretty much stayed home for the week and did my classes on Zoom. I had to cancel class one day, because I had no voice. It was not fun!

On November 20, Kory and I headed down to St. George. We listened to tunes and had some In n Out on the way down. We stayed at his sister Nicole’s house, and she was a great hostess. Kory’s dad and sister’s families came over later for some pizza and football. On Sunday, we got up and went for a walk in the beautiful weather, then went to church with Nicole. We got to substitute in Primary with her, which is my normal calling. After church we went to Swig after hours and got some drinks (perks of being with the owner)!

We had Sunday dinner with all the relatives and then we went over to Dixie State’s institute to set up for our fireside. Kory and I did a fireside for the young single adult stake that Lori is Relief Society President for, and they had a great turnout, especially for a holiday weekend.

On Monday, we got up and went for a bike ride on the Mayor’s Loop down by the river. It was beautiful but a little chilly first thing in the morning. Afterward we got some hot chocolate and bought some gloves for our future bike rides. I worked online for the rest of the day while Kory read and hung out. We watched some football and visited with some of Nicole’s kids who were passing through on their way to Arizona.

On Tuesday, Kory went golfing with his dad, and I worked online and taught some classes on Zoom. Later that afternoon, we went for another bike ride further south on the Virgin River trail. It was so sunny, peaceful, and nice. We loved it! We got back and went out to dinner with Nicole to this great Peruvian place called Viva Chicken. It was delicious! Then we met LaRell and Karen for a concert at Dixie State. It was the Sharpe Family singers, which is a family where the dad and mom met as leads in Les Mis and now their kids are great singers as well. They did so many great Broadway numbers and were amazingly talented. We loved it!

On Wednesday, Kory and I biked a route near Pioneer Park in St. George. I couldn’t tell from the map that it was straight uphill, so I almost died. After that, we went and had some lunch at Iceberg and then went for a drive down through Veyo and Snow Canyon. That night we went to the Bair’s to watch the Jazz game and have some pizza.

On Thursday, we got up and went back to Pioneer Park to climb around on the red rock—I was too exhausted from the bike ride the day before. There were a lot of visitors there. We helped Nicole get ready for the Thanksgiving meal and family started arriving around 1:00. We had a great feast at 4:00 and visited and watched football the rest of the day.

On Friday, Kory and I just headed home as soon as we woke up. The roads were pretty empty and the weather was great. We stopped in at Dave and Kelley’s for a bathroom and some delicious pie. We got home in the early afternoon and the kids got back from their moms soon after.

On Saturday, we put up the Christmas decorations and then Kory, me, Phoebe, and Caleb went to the movie Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

On Monday, November 29, a bunch of us went to Greg’s indoor soccer match. It’s fun to watch him play. Unfortunately, we sprained his foot pretty bad—we thought it was broken! So that cut the match a little short!

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
