July 2021

July 2021

On July 2, we had fun visiting with Jodi’s family from Vernal.

July 3 was the day of all of the 4th of July celebrations. We had an early morning breakfast with Austin’s family and the kids, then Kenzie joined us, and we all watched the parade with Leah’s family near Tautphaus Park. Later that day we had a barbeque and Austin made delicious smashburgers. Later, Kory, me, Austin, Andy, Lakyn, and Isaac watched the fireworks down at Snake River Landing. We rode our bikes down and back, which was quite the adventure with car and pedestrian traffic. Caleb had to work and Chloe watched with friends.

July 4th was Sunday, so we went to church, visited in Sugar City, and watched Driveway of Fire at the Sorenson’s house. On Monday, July 5th, we went to Rexburg Rapids with Kenzie and Greg, Austin and Stevie and Chloe and her friend Emily. It was a great day.

On July 8, Morgan biked down to Orange Leaf with her young women group to have some frozen yogurt.

I had been telling Kory about this book he should read, Mrs. Mike. So, he wanted to remind me to look for it at my office. So one day I got up and found this sticky note: Book “This Is Mike.” Yes, he may have a slight hearing problem. We got a good laugh from that.

On July 9, Joelle, me, and Anne hosted a retirement party for our friend Paula. It was a lot of fun to have so many from the department stop by. That night, Andy wanted to have a sleepover at “Bampa’s House,” so Austin and Morgan made a bed on the floor in the basement and watched movies with her until she fell asleep. On the 15th, Joelle and I hosted a baby shower for Diantha, another friend in the department, so we were quite the little social butterflies that week!

On July 14th McKenzie and Austin’s families invited us to meet them at the Shelley pool for swimming. It’s a cute little community pool and we had fun. After, we got some food from Artic Circle and ate and played in the park.

On the 17th, we took everyone to eat at Texas Roadhouse and had Madi as our server.

On July 21st, we joined Julie Nef’s family for some baptisms and took Morgan, Caleb, and Chloe. It was a nice afternoon.

On July 25th, we met my family at the Ricks Gardens at BYU-Idaho to enjoy the beauty. It was a pretty night.

On July 26th, we celebrated Kory’s 58th birthday with some dessert and the kids came over. I also officially turned in my grades for the semester that day and started my vacation!

On the 27th, Kory and I drove down to Layton to do a fireside for my brother’s ward youth group. Kelley cooked us a delicious dinner beforehand. It was fun to visit with their family. Kory and I listened to the Mistborn series on audio book driving down and back. We enjoyed it.

On July 28th, Kory joined Caleb at Young Men’s camp up in Driggs and they biked the Tetonia to Ashton rail trail. They got rained on and had quite a bit of wind, but they did the whole thing.

That same day, I went to lunch in Rexburg with my friend Kris Powell, who I haven’t seen since COVID.

On July 31st, we took the kids to eat at Olive Garden to celebrate Phoebe’s last day of work! Her manager was so nice, she gave us a complimentary dinner! Phoebe is taking a break from work to get ready to start Cosmetology classes at Austin Kade in August.

It was a hot month, so we enjoyed the air conditioning, spent some fun time babysitting Kenzie’s boys and enjoyed the lazy days of summer.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
