June 2021

June 2021

On June 1, Morgan had her 6th grade Awards Assembly/Graduation. She got an academic award and a triathlon award. She is excited to be done with elementary school and to move on to middle school this Fall. That night a bunch of us went to Reed’s Dairy. The grandkids had fun with the farm animals.

On June 5, Kory and I didn’t have any kids with us, so we went to Star Valley on a drive and hiked the Intermittent Springs trail. It’s just a short little nature walk to this spring that comes out of the side of the mountain. On the way home we stopped and walked along the shore of Palisades. It looks nice and full this year.

On June 7, we had a get together at our house for Grandpa LaRell’s birthday. We had pizza and ice-cream and cake and had a nice visit. Josh and Kasey brought their family too.

On the 11th, Kory and I went for a little walk around the greenbelt, had a snow-cone, and just enjoyed a beautiful evening.

On the 12th, Kory and I went up to Ashton and rode the rail trail out to a couple of old railroad trestle bridges. It was the perfect day for it. Then, we drove to Cave Falls and hiked a little bit. We got a burger on our way home and then relaxed the rest of the day.

We had lots of fun grandkid time throughout the month.

On Father’s Day we had a barbeque. Leah did the meat and McKenzie did sides and dessert. It was a relaxing day for Kory. He didn’t have to cook, and he got to watch the U.S. Open and play with grandkids. Later, I went to Sugar City for my dad’s birthday and Father’s Day. Nathan and David’s families were there from out of town, so it was great to see them. Jodi was the only one missing.

Chloe and Morgan went to Girl’s Camp from June 21-24. They had all of the usual camp fun, plus on Tuesday they got to go zip-lining and swimming at Rexburg Rapids.

On June 23rd, Kory finished the Harry Potter series.

On the 24th, he watched McKenzie’s kids for a few hours and then he and I went golfing with Austin and Andy and Stevie. We went on the junior course at Sandcreek and it was fun. I did better than my first time partially because we got a deal on some new clubs that make hitting irons way easier for me.

On the 26th, Kory and I drove up to Jackson and went into Grand Teton National Park. We parked our vehicle just past the Moose entrance and biked 5.5 miles to Jenny Lake. We walked around and got some pictures, then biked back to our car. Then, we drove to String Lake and did a four-mile hike around the lake. It was so pretty! I love doing new hikes. On the way home, we stopped and had a bbq at my Mom and Dad’s with Kristi and Nathan’s families. We were sunburnt (well, I was) and worn out by the end of the day.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
