November 2020

November 2020

We started November out with voting. The results were up in the air all week, and then it looked like Biden won. Since then, Trump and his supporters have demanded a recount, so we’ll see what happens. Then we celebrated Morgan’s 12th birthday! We had a little party at the house and later that week took Morgan and Lakyn out to dinner at The Olive Garden. Kory enjoyed the last nice weekend with a day of golfing with BJ.

Austin took Isaac and some friends down to Arizona to pick up their stuff and clear out of their rental. He’s still working remotely and doesn’t report back to work at the office until March, so they will continue living in Idaho until the baby is due. Then, they are hoping he can keep working remotely. We’ll see what happens. Isaac finished his seminary teaching class and was hired to teach part-time. He will be teaching two classes at Idaho Falls High School starting in a couple of weeks. We’re really excited for him. Phoebe tested positive for COVID, so she had to quarantine and miss work for awhile. Austin and Isaac also got COVID, so pretty much everyone in our home has had it, except the younger kids. Who knows, maybe they had it and never showed symptoms!

The weather got snowy and cold and with all of us spending so much time at home, we finally broke down and put up the Christmas decorations. Me, Lakyn, and Chloe did most of it, with Kory helping to put up the tree and string the lights on the tree. We even made a trip to Hobby Lobby for some more decorations and it was a MAD HOUSE!

Chloe and Caleb finished up the trimester. It was kind of a rough one, with both of them missing quite a bit of school due to quarantine. We’re happy it’s over and we can start fresh. On the 20th, President Nelson gave a message and challenged us to post on social media what we are grateful for. It was a fun chance to count our blessings. We had a semi-warm Saturday on the 21st, so Kory tackled pruning the bushes and the rest of us helped a little with raking leaves and loading the truck. It was nice to get that taken care of.

On the 25th, I went to Sugar City and my mom helped me make pies—one of these years I’ll be brave and do it on my own. I made the pie crusts and coconut cream, banana cream, and chocolate all with homemade fillings. The rest of the day I hung out with my parents and Jodi’s family and whoever happened to show up at my moms.

On the 26th, we had all of our kids and their families over for dinner. Austin smoked the turkey and it was amazing. Kory did potatoes, McKenzie and Greg did stuffed mushrooms and macaroni and cheese, Madi and Quinton did stuffing, and we bought some rolls. We had a great meal and a fun time visiting and hanging out. Phoebe and Chloe did some Black Friday shopping with their Andrus cousins, and Kory and I hung out some more with the Gees on Friday. The rest of the time Kory and I mostly just sat around and read. It felt wonderful,  but got me a little trunky for the end of the semester.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
