February 2019

February 2019
The first week of February, Suzette enjoyed meeting up for lunch with her MTC comp, Marla Banks Cluff. They reminisced and realized that they have been home from their missions for 25 years!! Yikes. So great how that mission bond can last a lifetime. A few days later, she went to St. Anthony to see her high school friend, Jeni Fogle, whom she hasn’t talked to in a few years. They had a good time catching up. That also happened to be the evening of the Super Bowl, so Kory and the kids went over to the Pearson’s to enjoy some food and watch the game. That same weekend, sister-in-law Kelley Gee came up to do a make-up party, so Suzette had fun hanging out with her sisters and mom and trying on lipstick!

Kory and Suzette enjoyed the annual CES Evening with a General Authority, with Elder Rasband as the speaker and pie as refreshments. They also spoke at a Stake Relief Society conference for a Bonneville stake. That was also the day of Phoebe’s Sweetheart Ball. For the day date, they went skiing at Kelly Canyon and she had a pretty bad fall, but she survived. Suzette was excited to be called as a Primary teacher for the 4-year-olds and is lucky to have the most reverent 4-year-olds on the planet. That Sunday night, everyone had fun looking through Kory’s old pictures and report cards from when he was in elementary school and high school.

For Valentine’s Day, we got the kids big candy bouquets. Kory and Suzette had a pretty busy day on Valentine’s, so they enjoyed a candlelit breakfast together. They especially loved their valentine from grand-daughter Andy.
On the 15th, Suzette and Kory celebrated their 5th Wedding Anniversary. There was a bad storm forecasted for the weekend, so they didn’t travel anywhere. They enjoyed some alone time and went to the temple on Friday night, and Lava Hot Springs on Saturday to soak in the hot pools. That weekend they were egged by some high school kids, so they spent some time scrubbing egg yolk off the outside of the house. Not cool.

Caleb was busy with the final rehearsals for the district musical, Newsies. Everyone looks forward to seeing it. Phoebe was excited to get her assigned track for BYU-Idaho: Fall/Winter. We also enjoyed a new policy from the church—missionaries are allowed to call home weekly. So, on the 18th, Kory and Suzette enjoyed a nice phone call with Isaac. He is doing so great and loving his mission and strengthening his testimony.

Suzette was still slogging away working on the dissertation. Kory was nice enough to go with her to work on Saturday the 23rd and hang out with her in her office so she wouldn’t be lonely. She got more work done that day than she had all week, so he must be magic. She was super happy to send off a chapter to her chair and be almost done with her last chapter! Maybe this thing will actually get done some day,
At the end of February, Phoebe and Caleb geared up to start Spring Track, in spite of the below zero temperatures and non-stop snow. Bring it on! Shawn and Amy’s family came for a visit the last week of February. Chloe had her choir concert for the end of the trimester.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
