We had fun one weekend watching Ryker while his parents were out of town. He's obsessed with Marvel and his Uncle Caleb, so he was a happy camper all weekend. The kids loved having a little one around the house.

Kory and I had a relatively free weekend last weekend, so I planned a little getaway. We got an awesome airbnb in Wellsville, UT, so Friday after work we drove down to Brigham City and ate at Maddox. Then, we headed down Sardine Canyon to Wellsville and found our rental. It was pretty much a brand new guest cottage with lots of little perks, so we had fun staying there.

The next morning, we headed toward Logan, stopping at the American West Heritage Center. When I was at USU I worked one summer at the Festival of the American West. This center is an outgrowth of that festival, only it's now a year-round permanent exhibit. We walked through different places and watched some demonstrations. This is a 1917 farm house.

There was a lady there making lunch on a wood-burning stove, so it was interesting talking to her about it.

She let me pretend I was cooking.
In the back yard, there were some boys doing cider-pressing demonstrations.

There was also a steam-powered wheat thresher.

We paid a little extra to see the bison "herd" but when we saw it, it was just a field with about 12 bison in it, so we were laughing a little bit, but we had fun chatting with the boys who led the tour.

We headed out after a couple of hours and Kory noticed we were the only people there without little kids. :)

In Logan, we ate at the Juniper Take-Out. That was a well-known restaurant when I was going to school in Logan, so I wanted Kory to try it out. It was also right by the Subway I worked at when I first moved to Logan, so I had to take a picture of it. After that, we drove home through Logan Canyon, took a left at Bear Lake and drove home through Star Valley and Palisades. It was a pretty fall drive.

We had our traditional Monday night trip to the Red Barn to get some pumpkins. This time the kids had extra fun taking Andy along.

Caleb will turn 15 on Thursday, so we had kind of a premature birthday cake and he got some nice headphones from Kory and I. Caleb has been enjoying his first year of high school. He just finished up cross country and tried out for the musical Newsies on Monday. So, he will be busy with rehearsals for the next couple of months.

Last night was Caleb's fall choir concert. He was all psyched that he got a tuxedo, but when he put it on, it was about two times too big for him. Kory and I were relieved when he walked on stage and the suit fit perfectly. He said that there are two Calebs in the choir and he had accidentally been given the other boy's suit. They sounded really good and Caleb has a nice bass voice.

Afterward, we took Caleb and Chloe to Freddy's. Kory has a fry under his top lip in this picture. :)

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
