January/February 2023

January 2023

On January 3 we helped Caleb move back into his apartment on campus and took Phoebe to Fuji for her birthday dinner. On the 7th, we went to Austin and Leah’s and had some delicious Olive Garden takeout and watched some of Matilda the Musical. On January 12, we went through the Rexburg temple with my niece Maddie. On January 14th, I went to a baby shower for my niece Kami. She is the first grandchild to have a baby, so this will be my parents first great-grandchild.

On the 27th, we had a new addition to our household. That afternoon, Phoebe asked me if there was any way we could consider getting another cat. Her friend had to move and wouldn’t be able to take the cat to the new location. For some reason, I agreed, and she picked him up that afternoon. He’s an orange cat, and was originally named Scar, but our girls named him Todd after the Fox and the Hound. Binx was NOT happy at the new family member. He hissed and growled at Todd, who didn’t seem overly concerned because he had lived with a dog at his former house. After about a week of circling around each other, they started to become friends. Now Binx loves having someone to wrestle with.

On January 29, we went to Maddie’s farewell talk and had a luncheon afterward with the relatives. She will be serving in the Detroit Michigan mission. That makes three Gee grandkids out right now.

Later on the 29th, we had all of our kids over for a dinner/going away party for Isaac, who was hired to work as a radiation tech at the Los Alamos Nuclear Site in New Mexico. We had a lot of good food and watched the Chiefs game while visiting.

February 2023

The first week of February, Kory and I drove down to New Mexico with Isaac to help him get settled. We had quite an adventure, starting with hooking up the U-Haul trailer to our Honda. We realized that we didn’t have the wiring to make the lights on the trailer work. Since we were driving about 800 miles with the trailer, we figured we needed to get it fixed. We stopped at the dealership on the way out of Idaho Falls, hoping they could fix it. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the part, but they did say a dealership in Orem had one. Since we were planning to spend the night in Orem, we figured we could get it fixed in the morning. So, we carefully made our way down to Utah that night, hoping to not get pulled over for the non-functioning lights. We made it to Kory’s sisters house and spent the night there.

Kory was at the dealership first thing and was able to get the wiring installed in a couple of hours. Isaac went on ahead in his car, since he needed to get to the apartment complex in New Mexico to get his key. We were a few hours behind him. We stopped in Moab for a delicious burger at Milt’s Drive-In, a 50s style diner with incredible food. We drove through Farmington and got to Espanola, New Mexico around 10:00. We unloaded all of Isaac’s stuff and helped him get a little bit settled before going to our hotel.

At the hotel I realized I had made the reservation for the wrong date, but luckily, they still had a room. It was not one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed in, but we were exhausted, and it worked for us! In the morning, Kory saw an ambulance and police car there carrying a lady out of one of the rooms (she was alive), so…a little scary. We checked out, got some breakfast for Isaac and then we did some shopping to get him settled in. Before we left, we went to this amazing little taco stand right across from Isaac’s apartment. He's going to get some great food down there. Luckily, he has a friend who works at the Los Alamos site and has been showing him around. It was a little sad to leave him there on his own, but he has his trusty dog Wilson by his side, and he has a great job. (On a side note, as we drove out of town, I saw a literal dumpster fire! I hope it’s not an omen of things to come!)

We drove through Pagosa Springs and Durango to get back over to Utah. We stopped at the same burger place on our way back through Moab. We got to Kory’s sister’s house in Orem in time to visit for a bit and then head to bed. We got up early and made it back home in good time. So! That was a lot of driving. Fortunately, I love road trips.

On the 12th, we went to Josh and Kasey’s house with most of the kids and watched the Super Bowl. Luckily, this time, the Chiefs won! We had a lot of happy people celebrating.

On the 13th, Kory and I drove down to Utah AGAIN, for a follow-up appointment at Huntsman Cancer. It was short and sweet, and they said everything looks good. After the appointment, we met up with some of my friends at Blue Lemon to celebrate almost being done with the treatment. They chipped in and got me a Minky Couture blanket which I love. (And the cats love it too.)

On the 14th, I had my last chemo treatment. It was so nice to finally be done. They took one of the drugs out of my treatment, so my usual side effects were milder. Kory brought me flowers and a card while I was there doing treatment. What a great Valentine’s Day!

On the 23rd, Kory and I went to the ward party. They had a bunch of fun Minute to Win-It games. Kory got roped into quite a few of them. I thought I was a good sport to get a Oreo from my forehead to my mouth. We somehow accidentally sat at the loudest, most competitive table, so it was a fun night.

On the 26th some of the kids came over and we had a little ceremony. Everyone who wanted to could write something they wanted to change on a plate and then we broke all of the plates. It was kind of a fun way to commit to something. I’m trying to not drink Dr. Pepper Zero with Cream Soda every day. 😊

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
