April 2023

April 2023

On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.

On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5th, Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.

On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7th, Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on the way home.

On April 9, Kory and I sang in the choir for Easter. After that we had most of the kids over for Easter Dinner. It was fun to hang out and eat and visit. The weather was a little nicer so the kids could play outside a bit. On April 10, Caleb started back working at Culver’s. We have an extra driver now, so we have to do a lot of car juggling to get everyone where they need to be.

On the 11th, my sister Kristi and I drove to Vernal to visit our sister Jodi. We had a nice visit on the way and Kristi kept me updated on the Lori Vallow Daybell trial. We also listened to some true crime podcasts. We got to Jodi’s and her kids had set it up like a hotel, so we got to sign in at check-in, go to our rooms, which all had room numbers. They had nice towels, notes, and candy on each of our beds. I was cracking up. We had dinner and then walked around Jodi’s property. It’s quite a bit warmer in Vernal.

On the 12th, we got up and packed and the three of us headed to Steamboat Springs, CO. There was some flooding on the way there because we’ve had a crazy amount of snow this year and it was starting to warm up. We got into town, ate at a great bakery, went to the hot springs and soaked for a couple of hours, then checked in to our hotel. I hadn’t slept well, so I kind of rested while Jodi and Kristi went for a walk and got some stuff from Walmart. That night we ate pizza in our room and watched some chick flicks.

On the 13th, we woke up to find that the road back to Vernal was closed due to flooding! That made things exciting. Also, while we were gone, Kristi’s yard got majorly flooded—like a river flowing through it! We took some backroads and made it back to Vernal fine. That night, the three of us ate at Café Rio then went home and watched a Hallmark movie. It was a fun trip. We’ve never really done a sister’s trip with no kids, so it was nice to be able to visit without interruptions and just relax.

On the 14th, Kristi and I headed back to Idaho and listened to lots of crime podcasts on the way. We were happy to see our families when we got home.

BYUI started back up on the 17th. This was my first semester fully face-to-face since May 2022. It was great but exhausting. After my third class of three in a row, I usually collapsed on a nice soft chair in my office for awhile. Joelle and I started walking at Rigby Lake a couple of mornings a week, and Kory and I often walked in the evening. So, I’m slowly building my strength back, but it’s definitely not back to normal. I’ve been wearing compression gloves to help with my neuropathy but it’s still a constant thing and sometimes very intense.

We had our first work outside day on April 28 and Kory did the first official mowing of the lawn. And I decided to go back to blonde for awhile!

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
