December 2022

December 2022

On December 2 Isaac graduated from his Radiation Technician program, which qualifies him to work at nuclear sites such as the INL. The INL didn’t have openings, so he’s going to be living and working in Los Alamos, NM starting in January. We will miss him, but we’re also excited for this new adventure for him.

On December 8 was the ward party, and Kory and I oversaw the music. We had the Primary kids sing three songs and then led the ward in a sing along. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. On December 11, the Primary kids sang in sacrament meeting. As I mentioned awhile back, Kory is the Primary chorister and I’m the pianist and we have a blast doing it.

On December 10 we went to lunch at Stockman’s with all the teachers and staff at the Skyline Seminary. It was a delicious meal, and we had a good time visiting.

On December 13th, I had my 9th round of chemo.

On December 18, we gathered at Jared and Karna’s for some food and visiting with Grandpa Kunz and Karen. They were up from St. George for a day to see all the Idaho kids. We had fun talking, eating, and watching football. Unfortunately, I started feeling sick about 30 or 40 minutes into it and had to leave, but everyone stayed and had a fun time. I never really know when my chemo side effects are going to hit, but when they do I need to be near a bed and a toilet.

On December 21, Kory and I did a fireside for a young adult stake in Rexburg.

On the 24th, Kory and I joined my Gee Family relations for a Christmas Eve gathering. First, we picked up Mom and Dad and then we joined the caroling caravan around Sugar City. This has always been one of my favorite Christmas memories. After that, we went to Kristi’s and had dinner and then played a fun White Elephant game and then watched the Nativity.

On Christmas Day, Kory and I went to church and sang in the choir for the program. I always like it when Christmas falls on Sunday. When we got home, the younger kids had arrived from their mom’s, so we opened Santa gifts. A little while later the older kids came, and we did gifts from the gift exchange and then made Christmas dinner. After dinner, the kids had fun with the Nintendo switch for a few hours and others worked on a puzzle Kory got for Christmas. Overall, a fun and chill Christmas day.

Chloe had her written driver’s test on December 17, which she passed with flying colors. She did her driving test on December 26 and now our last kid if done with Driver’s Ed! What a relief. On the 26th, we dropped Christmas gifts off to Austin’s family, since they had all gotten sick and we couldn’t see them earlier.

On December 27, I did my 10th chemo round. I have started having flu-like symptoms on my first day of chemo, so I just pile on the blankets for a few hours while I have intense chills and aches. Then I get major hot flashes for a few hours where I can’t stand to have any blankets on me. Then I just sleep and have night sweats all night. It’s not fun, but it usually only lasts for 10-12 hours. This time my other side effects seemed to last longer.

On New Years Eve the kids gathered at our house and we had some fun ringing in the new year. We watched a Disney movie with the little kids while the older kids played Nintendo. Then the younger kids did some Nintendo games. Then we did a pinata that Austin brought. After that we busted out the karaoke and everyone sang a song or two. It was great fun. We toasted in the new year around 11:00 because of little kids, and then people headed home around 11:30. It was a fun night.

Pie Face

Chloe had her tenth birthday and she asked for the game Pie Face. Yep, you've seen it. The one where everyone takes turns getting whipped cream in the face. Here are some precious moments. Chloe also got a little fort-making kit for her birthday, so we've had these structures in the family room for a few weeks now.

April 2023

April 2023 On April 1 and 2 we chilled and watched General Conference. On the first, we got a new cat to replace Todd. This cat’s name is Taco, she is a girl, and she’s a tortoiseshell calico. She and Binx have taken quite a while to warm up to each other, but I think we’ll get there. She is cuddly like Todd, so we all like that.  On April 4 I watched Season 3 of The Mandalorian with my dad. On the 5 th , Kory and I took Austin and Leah to the Bee’s Knees for a birthday dinner. They have really great food there and it was fun to visit.  On April 6, we had BYUI Graduation. It was fun to be there, since I’ve missed the past year due to my cancer. On the 7 th , Kory, me, and Caleb babysat for Austin and Leah. It was fun putting the kids to bed and singing with them. Stevie loves the song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” so we sang that a bunch. On April 8, Kory and I went on a little date. We drove up to Driggs and had dinner at O’ Rourkes and then stopped and visited with my parents on t

Kory's Story

I just wanted to record this for our family history. When Kory and I were engaged, we went to Salt Lake to talk with someone at CES to see about re-applying to teach seminary. At the time, they indicated that he could re-apply, but they didn't seem positive about the likelihood of him getting re-hired. At that time, we decided not to pursue teaching again. Later that year, CES announced that there was no longer any block on people who had been divorced teaching seminary. Again, we talked with some people, but still felt that the chances of him getting hired were not good, because he would not be able to move if necessary, which is usually the case with new hires.  In Fall of 2015, Kory had a strong impression to check with the pre-service director and see what he would need to do to try teaching again. We still knew that the chances were not great, but he felt that he should pursue it. He began attending the class for pre-service seminary teachers, and was assigned to student te
