Kunz Krazies

Today was such a pretty Memorial Day. For some reason, I always think of wind when I think of Memorial Day. We had a little bit of wind, but mostly some beautiful, sunny weather. We headed up to Victor and the kids immediately ran around for awhile on the four-wheelers. Then, we went to the Victor cemetery to see Kory's grandparent's grave and to watch a memorial program for veterans. After that, we headed back to Grandma and Granpa Kunz's for a great Memorial Day picnic featuring Grandpa's yummy ribs. Then, we hung out riding four-wheelers, playing pool and ping pong and visiting. We ended the day with a visit to the Cedron cemetery where lots and lots of Kunzs are buried. That is where Kory and I plan to be buried (not to be morbid). Every once in a while we have a day where all of the kids are on great behavior and have a good time being together and today was one of those days. Sure do love them.

Kory and I had a little bit of time to ourselves this weekend, so we tried to milk it as much as possible. We went to the Fisherman's Breakfast in St. Anthony. I remember going every year when I was little, and it has been years since I've been and Kory has never been. We didn't have too long of a wait and the food was great. After that, I tagged along while Kory and BJ golfed. I was driving around in a cart. We got hit by a short hail storm and rainstorm, but I dried out by the end of the 9th hole. That night we went to see my niece, Kami, graduate from Madison High School. Her choir sang the prelude, so it was fun to hear both she and Caden sing there. It was a great program and moved along quickly, which is always good. Afterward, we went to Shawn and Amy's and visited. Kami is the first of the Gee grandkids to graduate. She is an incredible young woman in every way! These are some snapshots from their choir concert a week or so ago.

I felt like I spent this whole week running to different programs--and there are quite a few with three kids in elementary school. Here's a few photos to represent each kid. Caleb had his 6th grade track meet. He ran the 800 and got fifth place. Good job, buddy! Chloe's 4th grade class did a program on the Westward Movement. Chloe was a railroad worker and had quite a few speaking parts. Morgan had a first grade music program. I didn't manage to get any good photos of her, but I got a lot of it on video.

So, the first of the graduation ceremonies began tonight with Baccalaureate at the Civic Auditorium. Isaac sang Nearer My God to Thee as part of a quartet and did great for someone who has done absolutely no singing at all in school. :)

The bishop got up in church the other day and said, "As I was going out to walk the dogs the other day, I looked over, and there was Batman on the roof. I walked a little further, and there was Sleeping Beauty in the park." Not sure where Sleeping Beauty came from, but Batman was ours. Caleb was decked out in one of his many Batman costumes and climbed the roof of our little gardening shed, keeping watch over the neighborhood. So, now, when we can't find Caleb, we say, "Go check the roof."

A little update on my dissertation--I've made almost no progress. So, I've been trying to get back in the swing of things. Luckily our department/university has access to this great cabin in Victor, Idaho, where we can go and research/write. So, I gathered a few friends from the department who are also working on projects and we headed up to Victor. It was just a peaceful, beautiful setting to get into my project again. Reminder; I'm writing about the Teton Dam Oral histories. As I read my Grandpa Gee's story, I started getting a little emotional and really missing him. Also, one of my dad's friends, Brent Kinghorn, said in his that after he knew his family was okay, he immediately started wondering about his friends, like Jim Gee. He said, "I wondered if he had been out irrigating and if he had gotten the news." I just thought that was so sweet that he worried about my dad. They managed to get it right as he crossed the finish line, and he had glanced at the time and realized he beat the school record for the mile, which has been standing for thirty years! He and we couldn't be happier with how he did at state. Third in the two mile, and second in the mile. A great way to go out!

Just finished district track with Isaac and Phoebe.  Isaac took first in the mile and two mile and will go to state next week. Phoebe took sixth in the mile, and tenth in the 800. Here are a couple of great shots that their Aunt took. Love this shot of Isaac in the home stretch when he's pulling away from the pack.  We had a big group of family there to watch today. Kory was worried about getting a sunburn, so he had to borrow a hat.  So fun to watch these kids run. Glad Isaac has had a good final season. Earlier today I went to Chloe's author celebration where she read her report about Sacajawea. She's getting ready to become a big fifth grader next year.

Monday we had a party for our recent birthdays--Madison, 21, and Leah, 22. Love our birthday girls.
