First Week of Summer

My first week with the kids didn't come until the 15th, so we tried to pack in some fun times--in addition to chores, and reading and piano and all of that good stuff. (I'm realizing how exhausting it is to try to encourage children to use time productively.) Chore lists and chore jars. Chloe thought it was so cool she did about five chores out of the jar a day. Doing reading time out in the shade.  The first day the kids had a fun time playing office. This continued on and off throughout the week. The next day we tried to get Phoebe and Isaac ready for trek, which they took off for on Thursday. Cute little pioneers. It was hard and hot but they had a good experience. On Friday, the little kids spent almost five hours at the Artitorium. I read a book. :) Saturday we watched a soccer match a couple of my nieces were playing in. Later, we took as many people as could go to Inside Out. All of us were crying at some point in the movie. On Sunday, we

Jackson Hole

We had a rare Saturday with no kids and no commitments on the 13th, so we headed to Jackson. The weather was spectacular. We went to Teton Village and rode the tram to the top of the mountain and hiked around up there for awhile. When we got down, we went to a little cafe that we looked up on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and had breakfast. The Travel Channel was there filming something for one of their shows. After that, we headed to Jenny Lake and rode the boat across and hiked to Inspiration Point. There were people there, but it wasn't crowded like it gets in July and August. All in all, a great road trip.

Oregon Trip

The State Office of Education invited professors from each of the big universities in Idaho to attend this conference in Portland where they talk about professional issues like certification, teacher preparation, and professional development. Since it was all-expenses paid, I decided, what the heck. So, Cheryl, a professor from another department at BYUI, and I headed to Portland. We flew in on the day of their annual Rose Parade, so we got to drive by all of the winning floats on our way downtown. That night we walked to Powells Book Store and looked arround. Places like that are just too much to comprehend. Floor after floor of ceiling high book shelves. I didn't end up buying anything, but it was so fun to look around. After that we ate at a restaurant called Jake's and I had pork roast and clam chowder and some divine shrimp cocktail. The next day our meetings started and they kept us busy all day. On Monday night we went to dinner as a group at this really cool lit

Shoshone Falls

Kory and I did a little day trip to Twin Falls to see Shoshone Falls. It was a rainy drive. We took the route through Aberdeen and American Falls, just for fun. Once we got to the waterfall it was really sunny and nice. We hiked around and got some different pictures from different angles. After that, we drove into Twin Falls and ate at the River Rock Cafe. Love our little get-aways.

State Track

Isaac qualified for state track in two events. We didn't get many photos at district because the rain was terrible! Here's us huddled under an umbrella. Madi looks like some guy from the Middle Ages with her little hat. Isaac did great at state track in the mile and two-mile. He got personal records in both events (I think). He finished fourth in the mile (4:20) and fifth in the two mile (9:27). Super fast boy!
